Dr. Jeff Jordan serves as Associate Professor at Fort Hays State University where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and assists with the Tiger Marching band. In addition, Dr. Jordan teaches courses in conducting, composition, arranging, music education, instructs the horn studio and oversees student teachers. His public school teaching experience includes sixteen years at all levels in central Florida and Kansas. During his tenure at Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida he was selected as Teacher of the Year and was a Top Ten Finalist for County Teacher of the Year. Dr. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Florida Southern College, a Master’s in Composition from the University of Kansas and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers have included Gary Hill, Sarah McKoin and James Slutz (conducting), as well as John Pozdro, James Barnes, Jack Stamp and Paul Rudy (composition).
Dr. Jordan’s recent compositions include Sunstorm, The Adventures of Wynde Ding Wham and Jump Start, all from C. Alan Publications. His original work, and a time, is profiled in Volume Six of Teaching Music Through Performance in Band from GIA publications.
JoAnn Jordan, is a board certified music therapist. She is the founder of Musical Gems and Music Sparks. Over the past 25 years, she has developed a variety of themed music experiences for preschoolers and older adults. She has served as a presenter on “Working with Music” in May 2010 for AHEC Northwest, Drum Circles at the “Full Circle …An Aging Expo” in September 2008 and A Musical Approach to Children” for the NW Kansas Child Care Resource & Referral Agency. Prior to her work with Music Sparks, JoAnn offered preschool music classes. In addition, she served as Life Enrichment Coordinator at Sterling House of Hays and as Activity Coordinator at a variety of other long term care facilities. JoAnn is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Music Therapy. She resides in Hays, KS with her husband, daughter, and dogs.
